The thing is it took work and I soon found that what most self-proclaimed marketing gurus tell people about how easy it is just wrong and takes time to learn how to make money working from home. So I would like to share a few step by step tips to help you aim in the right direction with your efforts.

Step One – Find The Right Niche For YOU

This is the biggest mistake most marketing wannabees make and sadly most don’t come out on top. They decide to go with a niche they think they can make the most money with and usually it’s the make money online niche. I think the logic behind it is that other newbies won’t know the difference between a newbie and a seasoned marketer and thus will click their money links.

Sadly, for them, but good for me, is that this kind of thinking doesn’t work. I make money as long as they continue to think this way as they stay out of my niches. They might be very knowledgeable about all things ‘largemouth bass fishing’ but instead go for the make money niche, so they aren’t competing with me at all.

Do the research and find a niche you can talk about for the next year or two. Write down that thinks you are knowledgeable about and if the make money niche isn’t one of them don’t go there, period.

Step Two – Find The Right Keywords For YOU

Once you make the decision about which niche is best for you the next step, before ever writing any content is to find the keywords and phrases that will allow you to start earning in the next few weeks and that means you DO NOT go for the top keywords in your new niche.

My experience has taught me that top keywords in most niches today are tied up and can take years to compete for them. In the mean time most go broke or give up trying. Instead return to researching to get the best keywords for YOU.

So, once you have your niche you need to find YOUR best keywords and for this you can use Google’s free keyword tool to find keywords that don’t have a lot of competition, which is getting a little tougher every day. Personally I use Keyword Elite 2 for my keyword research as it saves me hours of research time.

Keyword Elite isn’t free but is about the best investment you will make for your business.

Step Three – Purchase A Keyworded Domain Name

So you have invested your time and maybe some money to find YOUR best keywords so the next step is to buy a keyworded domain for your work from home business. There are few things you should know about having a keyworded domain.

By the way, I use GoDaddy.com for all my domain purchases today.

Step Four – Hosting Your New Domain

You are getting closer to starting your niche focused blog but there is still something you need to know that’s going to make it easier and that’s using WordPress blogs and themes. For the past number of years I have been using HostGator for my hosting requirements.

HostGator has great support and have gotten me out of many pickles I’ve let myself get into but more than that they also have the most common control panel known as cPanel and it includes an easy way to install platforms for getting your message out there.

This install feature is called Fantastico and I love it as it makes installs so easy compared to doing this manually. I always use WordPress as it’s my favourite blogging platform.

Once I have WordPress installed it has the default themes which I don’t care for so I look for a blog theme that matches my blog’s niche. For this I like to used paid themes that are optimized already for search engines.

Step Five – Learn About Affiliate Marketing

This is the step where I start making money with my blogs. The thing is at the beginning I really didn’t know how to make the money and struggled for some time before being directed to an affiliate training ebook that actually worked for me.

With these five step by step tips for starting a money making blog you should be able to avoid most of the mistakes new online marketers make today.
